We are the business network for Greymouth. We put the people who run businesses here in the same room, we give them one voice when it counts, and right now we are pooling our card volume to go after a group merchant rate.
The idea

Our mark is the Māwheranui, the Grey River, drawn as a network. It is also a picture of what we do, in three steps.
Three points, not touching
That is most of us. Good businesses, working hard, sitting a hundred metres apart and barely knowing each other. Every one of them solving the same problems on their own.
The lines are what we add
Members meet each other. You find out who is good, who is hiring, what worked and what did not. Nothing about your business has to change. Only who you know changes.
Separate streams, one channel
One business saying something is a complaint. Every business in town saying the same thing is a position. The green point is what we make when we get there together.
Three streams. One flow. Pounamu at the mouth. That is Greymouth, Māwhera, and that is the network.
First job
One merchant rate for the whole district.
Every business here pays a fee on every card payment. Most have never checked what theirs is. On your own you have no leverage with a bank. Together we put through tens of millions of dollars a year, and that is worth negotiating.
Members join and add their volume
You tell us what you turn over on card and what you pay now. That is the whole job of the $99. The more of us in the pool, the better the number we can go and get.
One volume number, put out to bid
We put the district's combined card turnover in front of the acquirers and ask them to bid for it. One number from fifty businesses beats fifty businesses asking on their own.
Your agreement, your call
You sign your own agreement at the group rate, or you stay where you are. We never handle your money and we never sign anything on your behalf.
The rate depends on the volume, so the pool has to come first. The figures above are an example to show how the maths works, not a quote and not a promise. We will publish whatever we get, good or bad.
Who we are
Local businesses, not a committee with a logo.
Grey Business Network is the trading name of the Grey District / Māwhera Business and Promotions Association Incorporated. We are an incorporated society, run by a committee of people who own and run businesses in this town.
Retail, trades, tourism, hospitality, professional services. Anyone trading in the Grey District can join. There is no size test and no invitation needed.

What you actually get
No jargon. Here is the list.
- +Your card volume in the pool The bigger the pool, the better the rate we can go and negotiate. Your turnover counts towards it from the day you join.
- +A read on what you pay now Send us one merchant statement and we will tell you your real blended rate. Most people have never seen theirs.
- +The other members The people already running businesses here, in one room, a few times a year. The fastest way to find out what works in this town.
- +One voice when it counts When something lands that hits every business in town, we say it once, together, and it carries further than an email from one of us.
- +Events that fill the street New Year's Eve in the town square, the Christmas Carnival, Friday Night Eats. We run them, and they bring people past your door.
- +The notices that matter What comes through from Council, Development West Coast and NZTA, passed on and filtered for business, so you are not reading it in the paper.
